Orii's original coloring technique

Orii's "coloring" is not painting but a traditional technique that uses the corrosive properties of copper and brass and controls chemicals and flames to produce vivid colors.

This traditional coloring technique, which could only be expressed on cast products, has been developed to enable coloring on copper sheets thinner than 1 mm. Please enjoy the genuine colors drawn from copper and brass.

Transformable coloring techniques

The unique texture of colors and patterns is created by combining chemicals and techniques, the degree of dripping of the solution, and the degree of fire heating. You can enjoy the new expression of metal materials from traditional handwork.

Examples of coloring techniques

Nioi (boiling color): Metal is boiled in a pot containing a mixture of copper sulfate and copper carbonate to develop a color called "nioi (boiling color).

Nukami-yaki: The dough is coated with rice-bran paste and baked with a burner. The burnt traces of the salted rice-bran paste form a pattern on the surface of the dough.

The rice is then polished with a "Negobouki," made of rice cores. The shine of the "ohaguro" can only be achieved with this type of broom.
