Beautiful checkerboard pattern

The hand-hammered checkered pattern on Izumiken products is carefully handled one by one by craftsmen using a hammer. The checkered pattern is said to have originated from the kimono worn by Sanogawa Ichimatsu, a kabuki actor of the Edo period. It is one of the world's most popular checkered patterns, and it is a profoundly elegant pattern that evokes a somewhat modern Japanese atmosphere.

Handling high purity silver

Izumiken handles silver 999 (pure silver), which gives off a beautiful shine. Combined with the Japanese modern checkered pattern, it creates a simple but never boring item that can be used for a long time.

Hand-hammered checkered pattern technique

Creating the seemingly simple checkered pattern requires a great deal of concentration, using two hammers, each of which makes a round mark, and hammering repeatedly. First, the smooth hammer is struck repeatedly until large circles are formed one after the other. If you continue to strike between the circles with a rough hammer, the circles will collide with each other and the contact point will become a flat surface. In this way, a checkerboard pattern is created by the contrast between the shiny surface and the rough surface every other round.
