  • The dark blue color produced by oxidizing and polishing copper is Seiran Shoku, which expresses the uniqueness of Seiga-do. The impressive bulge, "Kuchi-UCHIDASHI," is a remnant of the shape found mainly on kettles. In the "Hyakunen Monogatari" series, the mouth-UCHIDASHI has been cut away to create a more straightforward form. In addition to the beauty of its appearance and color, copper's high thermal conductivity characteristic allows the user to directly feel the incredible sensation of cold sake.

【Craftsmanship and Attention to Detail】

Seiran Shoku (Indigo-blue)

After a sheet of copper is hammered and squeezed to form, the sheet is cleaned of any oil or other contaminants and soaked in a solution that sulfurizes the copper to produce an artificial rust coating. Next comes the process of polishing with polishing powder. The surface of each sake cup is carefully polished, sometimes to bring out the copper's natural color and sometimes to bring out the copper's natural color until it becomes shiny and polished. After the polishing process, the sake cups are soaked in a traditional technique called "nishiro-sui" (boiling color solution), which gives the sake cups an Indigo-blue color.

To achieve good coloration, the day's temperature, humidity, and finishing time must be considered. Since the coloration varies depending on the weather and season, detailed adjustments are made to produce an Indigo-blue color on that day.

Kichashoku (Golden brown)

After a single copper sheet is hammered and squeezed to form, the sheet is cleaned of any oil or other contaminants and soaked in a solution that sulfurizes the copper to produce an artificial rust coating. Next comes the process of polishing with polishing powder. The black rust is polished off from the entire surface of the sake cup, taking into consideration the design and coloring of each piece. The black color is left only on the hammered surface to accentuate the shading. Next, the surface is soaked in a traditional technique called "nishiro-tsu" (boiling color solution), which gives it a golden-brown color.

It is lighter in color than the typical sulfided brown copper tint. It becomes more austere and atmospheric as it is carefully used, and its color changes to a deeper shade.
